Paul y is an ex-cop looking for a job. Bran Doyle was a boxer but he’s now looking for a driver. And perhaps a little more.
y takes the job but soon finds himself involved in more than driving. There’s a murder. And conspiracy. And another murder.
And then the real trouble starts.
One Punch continues the series begun by y, described by one reviewer as a “highly intelligent, witty and well-plotted thriller”, and by others as “very entertaining”, “a great read” and “an unusual thriller”.
If you like thrillers with surprising characters, intricate plots, lots of humour and exciting action, then One Punch should fit the bill.

One Punch A Paul y Crime Thriller Paul y Thrillers Book 2 edition by Keith Dixon Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks
Ex-cop Paul Storey is back in Keith Dixon’s sequel to the first book in his new series. Storey needs a job, and despite advice to the contrary from friends on the Force, he opts for a simple driving job with Bran ‘One Punch’ Doyle, an illegal fights boxer now dabbling in property development. Driving, and, as he soon finds out, with a bit of security work thrown in. The Doyle family, and those surrounding it, all seem to be hiding their own secrets, and Storey isn’t one to mind his own business. Then comes the first murder and matters get out of control as the protagonist finds himself on the front lines of Doyle’s confrontation with his past.Unlike the first book in the series, we don’t spend time getting to know Storey’s past and the tale takes off almost immediately. Author Dixon maintains a cracking pace throughout and chapters fly by as the situations he places his protagonist become more and more complex, leading to an explosive ending that doesn’t disappoint.
As in all of Dixon’s novels, the characters carry a realism in their actions and dialogue which make them believable from the start and there’s never a dull moment even when the action is taking a rest. Of particular enjoyment was the back and forth between Storey and his new boss, a tussle of strong-willed personalities that takes no prisoners. A superb crime thriller from a master of the genre.

One Punch A Paul y Crime Thriller Paul y Thrillers Book 2 edition by Keith Dixon Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews
Keith Dixon is a favorite author of mine as he always delivers a great book filled with interesting characters. Paul y is an ex cop accepting a job from an ex fighter as his chauffeur. The job seems straight forward and mundane but the adventure begins and y trying to keep out of the way of the police investigation of corrupt dealings while trying to discover if the man who employs him is mixed up in it. Every character in the story seems to have an untold story and agenda of their own while Paul y tries to discover the clues and how they all tie in together. This is a great read and yet another character created by Keith Dixon for his readers to enjoy following through out his adventures.
What starts out as a seemingly safe, boring job as a driver and body guard, turns out to be much more. y finds himself in a family of secrets and confusing relationships. A former boxer, his new employer is trying to build a gym and bring the fighting in the ring to kids and young guys, expecting to be in the spotlight again and make more money. Well, these plans go sideways when an old opponent is bent on building a bigger and better facility. However, much more sinister activities are taking place. Soft spoken but deadly y steps up and the fun begins.
We live in a age where people change jobs frequently, and what I particularly liked about this second book in the Paul y series is that y, an ex-cop, is scrambling to find a job. His reputation (in the first book) as a cool tough guy who killed some people in foiling a smuggling operation has preceded him, and he is offered a job as a chauffeur with "other general duties" as well.
He's skeptical at first, commenting that after the publicity he had gotten on the smuggling involvement, "You'd be amazed the offer I had after that little event. TV interviews, book offers, a couple of women wanted to marry me . . . I don't know, you shoot someone and people either want to bury you under a ton of bricks or make you the new pope."
y is in Coventry now, having had his fill of London, and decides to take the job, working for Brian Doyle, a former boxer, now in his 60's, who has apparently made a fortune in real estate and now in the process of building a boxing center. He was known as "One Punch Doyle" and initially makes a poor impression on y as an arrogant rich guy.
But y is an adventurous type and when he learns through a police contact that Doyle's mansion is bugged for undisclosed reasons, he becomes intrigued and wants to know more. The pay is good, and he decides he can put up with Doyles' boasting about his past boxing triumphs, ending in "one punch" knockouts.
From this point, y finds out about old boxing animosities, money lenders, bookies, racketeers, a kidnapping. It begins with y discovering petty thefts at the construction site, being knocked on the head and left unconscious while the building is set on fire. He recovers in time to put out the fire, but realizes something big is going on here, and he was being silenced. A murder, not y's fortunately, takes place a short time later, and y finds himself inextricably involved.
While Doyle is at the center of these developments, y thinks, despite his initial dislike, that Doyle may actually be a decent person. But boxing and money have always attracted their share of unsavory types, and Doyle may be a target as much as y himself. y finds himself in the crosshairs of some vicious characters.
It's a satisfying crime novel as it goes beyond simplistic characterization and explores the motives of multiple individuals who begin by wanting to make money but cut corners, both small and large, fatal in some cases, in their pursuit of wealth.
Okay, maybe 4 1/2 Stars. Ex-London policeman Paul y is back in his home town to sell the family home after his father passes. In the last novel, we find TROUBLE never passes by Paul and this novel finds him newly back in 'dark waters.' Paul's career problem is that he has one skill set what he learned as a beat PC and his later training as an expert marksman. He is cool under fire but is vulnerable when he is unarmed and confronting hard cases. He can focus tightly but he is not especially gifted intellectually. In short, he is a believable protagonist; he does not have all the answers and he can't foresee things to come.
The writing has a good bit of everything good characterization all around, off-beat events and locations, fine pacing and plotting...and even bursts of humor where the basically gormless criminal support staff are concerned. Prepare for murder, arson, mayhem and some sexy situations.
