Pointed Roofs three times. The first time it came to me with its original wardrobe, a different dress for every mood ;and in some places the handwriting of the manuscript clothed the thought with the ragged urgency of haste ;and in others it wore an aspect incredibly delicate and neat, as if the writer had caressed each word before setting it down. I decided then that Pointed Roofs was realism, was objective. The influence of the varying moods I inferred from the vagaries of the holograph, inclined me to believe that the book presented the picture of a conscious artist, outside her material, judging, balancing, selecting. The second time the novel came to me in typescript, in the formal, respectable dress of the applicant for a clerkship. It was there to answer questions; willing to be examined but replying always in a single manner. I changed my opinion after that interview.

Arrived as described.
I have been exploring books written in the stream of consciousness style of writing this year. I came across the name Dorothy Richardson and had no idea who she was. It turns out, she was one of the earliest English authors to use this style in her writing. I got Pointed Roofs and was blown away. This is an interesting story of a young lady's move to Germany from England in the capacity of being a governess. The stream of consciousness used in the book allowed me to truly feel the events and the environments being written about. I never got jolted out of the book by the intrusion of the manner of writing Ms. Richardson employed in telling her story. The way she wrote added so much to the novel I felt. I hope the rest of this series will become available in print as I would like to read the other books as well.
I really enjoyed reading this and sincerely hope that other volumes will become available on in the near future
